Recently, I wrote this sentence in an essay:
"We should use love to bring prosperity to other’s lives, rather than using it to pierce their deepest emotions."
I find that repeating words is something I do a lot. Is this necessarily a bad thing?
Is it correct to remove the "using it" and say:
"We should use love to bring prosperity to other's lives, rather than to pierce their deepest emotions."
But I'm still repeating the word "to". What can I do?

This is a matter of style. Sometimes repetition can be a useful way to emphasize a point, but normally it is just ... repetitive. Sometimes it may suggest that the writer doesn't have the facility with words to match pronouns with antecedents, etc. ...

And don't worry too much about to. In a sentence like "It's up to you to find out how to get to the bottom of things" the four-fold repetition of that one word probably won't even be noticed.
