Грек-рим күресі, эллиндер мен латындар (гректер мен латындар) заманында пайда болған күрес түрі. Белдесу қарсыластар түрегеліп төрттағанға түскенде аударылып, домалатып әдістер қолдану арқылы өткізіледі. Мұнда балуандардың бір- бірлерін белден төмен ұстауына, аяғынан шалуына, қағуына рұқсат етілмейді. Грек-рим күресінің мақсаты лақтырған немесе төрттағаннан аударған, домалатқан кезде қарсыласының екі жауырынын бір мезетте немесе бірінен соң бірінің қайтарымынан кілемге тигізу. Мұндай басымдылық таза жеңіс деп есептеледі де белдесу тоқтатылады.

Егер таза жеңіс болмаған жағдайда, жеңіс ең көп ұпай алған балуанға беріледі. Балуанның киімі лыпа, бандаж, арнаулы трико және былғарыдан тігілген жұмсақ аяқкиімнен тұрады. Грек-рим күресінің жарыс ережесі 1896 ж. шығарылып, содан бергі уақытта талай рет жаңартылып келеді. Ол 1986 ж. 1 -ші Олимпиялық ойындардың бағдарламасына еніп, содан бері (1900, 1904 жылдардан басқа) бағдарламадан басқа олимпиядалық жарыстан түспей келеді. Әлем чемпионаты 1897 ж. Еуропа чемпионаты 1898 жылдан бастап өтіп келеді. Күрес әуесқойларының халықаралық бірлестігі (ФИЛА) 1912 ж. құрылды. ҚР- ның Грек-рим күресінің бірлестігі 1993 жылдан ФИЛА-ға мүше.[1]
