I hear a word in class that I idiotically didn’t write down. The meaning of the word was to alter a set of beliefs to accommodate affluence. I starts with an A I know that at the very least. A concrete example would be like how observant Christian principles were thrown out by early Roman Christians because it didn’t fit their cultures affluent lifestyle. Essentially it’s a single word term for greedy people who create personal delusions and bastardize beliefs to claim the categorical group those who observe those beliefs represents. Good hunting everyone! And no the word I’m looking for is not accommodate.

You say, "The meaning of the word is to alter ..." That requires a verb. Later you say, " it’s a single word term for greedy people..." That would be a noun (or possibly an adjective). Please say which you require.
